I purchased my group of 5 male and 2 female long fin green C. aeneus last fall at the Akron auction. The group was placed in a 20 gallon high tankto give them a chance to grow a little , since they were still young. They were placed on a diet of frozen brine shrimp, earthworm pellets, and shrimp pellets.

Right after christmas I noticed the females were starting to get very full of eggs. I decided it was time to move the little colony to a smaller tank to see what would happen. They were placed in a 5 gallon tank heated to 78 degrees with a PH of 7.6. I placed black construction paper around the tank to darken it up and the wait began.

Every day before I went to work I checked on the tank to see what was going on. I checked day after day with no results, until finally on january 10th I saw some eggs scattered around the sides and bottom of the tank. There were not many perhaps 30 to 50 total, So I didn't hold out much hope in getting a viable spawn. I moved the parents out of the tank - crossed my fingers and waited. Much to my surprise on january 13th I saw about 30 little wigglers making their way around the tank.

Now to keep the new babies alive. I started them out on a diet of banana worms for the first few weeks. As they grew (Which happened rather quickly) Their diet was supplemented with frozen brine shrimp and crushed earthworm pellets. Their appetites were quite voracious and at 60 days I have 25 pretty little long finned green aeneus cory cats.
