YOUNGSTOWN AREA TROPICAL FISH SOCIETY SHOW RULES - AUGUST 16 & 17, 2008 General Rules 1. All entries must be displayed in standard bowls or flat-sided tanks. All tanks and bowls must be bare. Sponge filters and air stones are optional. Entrants are to bring their own bowls, tanks and backgrounds. Solid colored backgrounds required. Judges may disqualify for bow front tanks, with the exception of class #1, 2, 3 and 52. 2. All bowls and tanks must be covered. The Show Committee recommends plastic wrap or suitable material that can be secured to the tank with rubber bands or tape. No fish deemed to be hazardous by the Show Committee will be permitted in the show. 3. The entrant must provide their own tank dividers. 4. Air will be supplied to within four feet of every entry that requires air. The entrant must provide their own airline, valves and air stones. 5. Every entrant is encouraged to bring their own water. Some water will be available. 6. No entry may compete in more than one class. 7. Any entrant may be fed with approval of the Show Committee. 8. One fish constitutes an entry, with the exception of Class 27 (Pairs), Class 28 (Group of Six) and Class 29 (Family). 9. Any entrant using a tank larger than twenty (20) gallons must provide their own stand. 10. No entry may be removed before 3:00 PM on Sunday August 17, 2008. NO EXCEPTIONS. 11. Any entry not removed by 6:00 PM Sunday, August 17, 2008 is considered abandoned and becomes the property of YATFS. 12. No person may touch an entry for any reason after it has been placed, without prior consent of the Show Committee. 13. The Show Committee will rule on all questions of controversy and classification. The Show Committee reserves the right to disqualify any entry or entrant. 14. All entrants in the Junior classes must be 16 years of age or younger. 15. Any junior may enter in either the open classes or the junior classes, but not both in the same show. 16. The Junior classes are considered their own show, with their own Best of Show Award. Junior show entries are not eligible for open show awards. 17. Class 2 - Bowl Beautiful - may contain any combination and color of natural, marine or artificial materials. The entry must contain at least one (1) live fish. Shape and size of the tank must not exceed 10 gallons. 18. Classes 1 and 3 - Novelty Decorated Aquarium and Aquarium Display - any combination and color of natural, marine or artificial material may be used. The entry must contain at least one (1) live fish. Shape and size of the tank must not exceed 10 gallons. 19. Electrical cords, valves, heaters, lights, hoods, etc. must be in good working condition on the Bowl, Novelty, Aquarium, and Discus (heaters) entries. 20. No tanks depicting the dangers of pollution are permitted in any class. 21. NO SALES WILL BE PERMITTED AT THE SHOW WITHOUT PRIOR BOARD OF DIRECTORS APPROVAL. Judging 1. The judging will take place on Sunday, August 17, 2008 at 8:00 AM. 2. All winning entries will be posted on completion of all judging. 3. The decisions of the judges are final and are not subject to appeal. Registration and Fees 1. An entry fee of $1.75 will be charged at registration for each entry up to 25 in Classes 1 thru 44. All additional entries are free. 2. An entry fee of $1.00 will be charged for each entry in classes 45 - 52 (Junior Classes). 3. Entries must be registered on Saturday, August 16, 2008 between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM. 4. If an extension is necessary, it is required that you call Tom DiCola at 330-758-3043 before Wednesday, August 13, 2008. Miscellaneous Information 1. This show is open to anyone who desires to enter, regardless of club affiliation, or if you do not belong to a club. 2. No entrant may be under 3 years of age. 3. The Show Committee will be at the Avalon Inn Hotel, and available from 10:00 AM Saturday, August 16, 2008 until closing. On Sunday, August 17, 2008 they will be there from 8:00 AM till closing. 4. Every effort will be made to safeguard the entries. However, neither YATFS, the Show Committee, nor the Avalon Inn will be liable for any equipment or fish lost, stolen or damaged. The liability release on the registration form MUST be signed in order to participate. 5. Dead fish, leaking tanks, and malfunctioning equipment will be removed from the show at the discretion of the Show Committee. 6. No chemicals, medications, or buffers are allowed on the show floor without consent of the Show Committee. Open Show Awards 1. The trophies, cash awards and certificates will be awarded after the auction on Sunday, August 17, 2008. 2. Cash Awards will be given for all classes as follows: First Place - $10.00; Second Place - $6.00; Third Place - $4.00. 3. Steve Michel Award of $25.00 will be given to the Best of Division Tank or Bowl in Classes 1, 2 and 3. 4. Best of Division Awards will be given in the following Divisions: Cichlids, Goldfish, Scavengers, All Other Egg Layers, and Livebearers.
5. Best of Show Award will be awarded to an individual with the fish entry the judges deem Best in Show. 6. Club Challenge Trophy will be awarded to the visiting club that accumulates the most points in the Show. The first Club listed on your registration will receive your challenge points. 7. Top Show Person Trophy will be given to the contestant who accumulates the most total points in the live fish, open class categories. Points will be accumulated in the following way: First Place will receive 3 points. Second Place will receive 2 points. Third Place will receive 1 point. In the event of a tie, the most First Place wins will be used as a tiebreaker. If there is still a tie, the number of Second Place wins will be used as a tie breaker. In the event there is still a tie, dual trophies will be awarded. Junior Class Awards l. Trophies, Cash Awards and certificates will be handed out after the auction on Sunday, August 17, 2008. 2. Cash Awards will be given along with certificates for all Junior Classes as follows: First Place - $10.00; Second Place - $6.00; and Third Place - $4.00. 3. Junior Best in Show Award will be given to the Junior Class entry that judges deem Best in Show.
